By 2026, the internet will have undergone a fundamental reshaping. No longer solely a human-centric domain, it is now a collaborative ecosystem where AI agents play an equally vital role. The core currency of the web is shifting from the passive “page view” to the tangible “action completed”. For instance, instead of merely viewing a flight booking page, the agent can book a flight for you.

At the heart of this transformation is the rise of frameworks like OpenClaw, pioneering the shift of AI from simple chat interfaces to sophisticated local orchestration layers. This heralds a move from a “Human-Only” internet to a “Hybrid-Agentic” ecosystem. Your digital representative, your agent, navigates and engages with the digital world alongside you.

This shift redefines how humans interact with technology. No longer do we manually click, navigate, and scroll through endless interfaces. Instead, our agents handle the orchestration, executing complex sequences of actions across multiple services in their “backend”. The browser window becomes a viewport into the agent’s work, not the primary interface for task completion itself. Humans remain in the loop for high-level strategic decisions, critical oversight, and nuanced creative direction. Autonomous systems handle the tedious navigation and complex coordination. These agents can reason, plan, and execute with unprecedented speed, freeing humans to focus on higher-order tasks.

From DOM-Scraping to the Functional Layer

For decades, the web’s architecture has primarily catered to human eyes, relying on Document Object Models (DOM), CSS for visual presentation, and human-interpretable cues. While bots have long been accessing websites for indexing and scraping, they can only retrieve content. They were not to interact with the site’s functionality.

AI agents represent a fundamental shift: they go beyond merely “reading” the web to actively “performing” on it. Each interaction involves Outcome-Based Pricing, where the sub-agent is paid a “Value-per-Call” fee only upon successful task completion. This frictionless, multi-layered marketplace allows for high-velocity coordination that would take a human hours of manual effort to achieve.

The “Search Engine” for Agents

If agents are the primary users of the web, “keywords” are no longer the driving factor of discovery. It is driven by capability matching. A human uses Google to find “the best Italian restaurant”. To survive the Agentic Shift, businesses must instead optimise for machine discoverability by creating structured, queryable interfaces that speak the language of AI. The trust layer becomes the ultimate battleground. Just as high-authority sites dominate Google today, businesses with verified track records of successful, secure interactions will dominate the agentic search results of tomorrow.

“Know Your Agent” (KYA)

To relieve the tension between websites and bots, we are moving from “blocking” to “verification”. Under the KYA (Know Your Agent) framework, an agent is no longer an anonymous robot; it is a verified proxy of a human principalAgent Passports transform how we establish trust using Verifiable Credentials (VCs), allowing an agent to present cryptographic proof of its provenance and specific authorisation limits without sharing sensitive passwords.

A critical component of this framework is Capabilities-based permission. Modern service providers must allow human principals to pre-configure exactly what an agent can do on their behalf. For example, a bank could enable a customer to define permissions such that their agent can query balances or transfer funds between the customer’s own accounts. But it is strictly prohibited from transferring funds to third-party accounts. When the verified agent arrives to perform a task, the website automatically validates the action against these human-defined rules before allowing or declining the request.

This is further reinforced by Intent-Based Authorisation. The human issues Ephemeral Tokens that are valid only for a specific task within a specific timeframe. A principal might grant a command such as: “I authorise my agent to spend up to $50 for a restaurant reservation”. Because these tokens expire quickly and carry zero authorisation for unrelated tasks—like accessing personal messages or payment history—they ensure that every interaction remains isolated, bounded, and understandable. By treating every agent as a stateful entity with verifiable claims, we enable a “Green Lane” where trusted agents can access premium services while malicious actors are effectively blocked.

The Trust Battleground: Reputation and the “Green Lane”

In the agentic era, trust is maintained through a sophisticated framework of accountability. By treating every agent as a legitimate, stateful entity with verifiable claims, we enable the “Green Lane”. Trusted agents representing legitimate human principals are granted seamless access to premium functional layers, while malicious actors are restricted.

Accountability layers connect principals to actions. If an agent behaves maliciously, such as unauthorised data scraping, the registry flags that agent’s “Passport,” and its reputation score drops across all services. Meanwhile, human principals retain their own scores, creating mutual responsibility: agents must follow rules, and principals must vet who they authorise. This creates the trust infrastructure for agentic ecosystems, respecting both the human’s right to privacy and the website’s right to be paid.


The path to agency isn’t security, it’s trust. Trust is built by building systems where safe defaults protect everyone, while trusted agents can operate with speed and autonomy. We are moving toward a more resilient, high-velocity, and friction-free internet where agents become tools, not threats.
